Any applications received after this date and time will not be considered in the lottery.
All new students interested in applying for 2025-26, must submit an application before the end of Open Enrollment. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Families will be notified of acceptance or denial once the open enrollment period ends or the lottery is conducted. If there are more applicants than available spaces, admission will be determined by a random public drawing, scheduled for March 21st at 9:00 AM. The drawing will be streamed live on the GIS YouTube channel.
If accepted, new enrollees will need to provide proof of residence, proof of birthdate, and immunization records. The applicant will be disqualified if the application is falsified or if incorrect information is provided. Falsifying any information (including address) will void acceptance.

Current students who wish to return for the 2025-26 school year must complete the “Intent to Return” form either digitally in the Aeries Parent Portal or submit a hard copy form to the school office by January 31st. If the “Intent to Return” form is not received by January 31st, the student is forfeiting their spot at Gateway International School for the 2025-26 school year.

If needed, the lottery will occur on the scheduled date and time for Gateway International School. The lottery is open to the public and will be live streamed on the GIS YouTube page.
If a lottery is needed, preference will be given according to the charter specifications which are as follows:
- Siblings of existing students who reside within the San Juan Unified School District boundary
- Siblings of existing students who reside outside the San Juan Unified School District boundary
- Children of GIS employees who reside within the San Juan Unified School District boundary
- Children of GIS employees who reside outside the San Juan Unified School District boundary
- All other applicants who reside within the San Juan Unified School District boundary
- All other applicants

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
We're required to check immunization records for all new student admissions at TK/Kindergarten through 12th grade and all students advancing to 7th grade before entry. Parents must show their child's Immunizaiton Record as proof of immunization.
Students Admitted at TK/K-12 need:
- Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP, DTP, Tdap, or Td) — 5 doses
(4 doses OK if one was given on or after 4th birthday. 3 doses OK if one was given on or after 7th birthday.)
For 7th-12th graders, at least 1 dose of pertussis-containing vaccine is required on or after 7th birthday. - Polio (OPV or IPV) — 4 doses
(3 doses OK if one was given on or after 4th birthday) - Hepatitis B — 3 doses
(not required for 7th grade entry) - Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) — 2 doses
(Both given on or after 1st birthday) - Varicella (Chickenpox) — 2 doses
Students Starting 7th grade need:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) —1 dose
(Whooping cough booster usually given at 11 years and up) - Varicella Chickenpox) — 2 doses
(Usually given at ages 12 months and 4-6 years)

Gateway International School held the lottery on April 19th, 2024. GIS will now continue to accept applications and will offer admission as space becomes available in accordance with the admissions and enrollment policy.

Starting January 1, 2021:
All medical exemptions can only be issued through the California Immunization Registry – Medical Exemption website (CAIR-ME) by physicians licensed in California.
Schools and child care facilities may only accept from parents new medical exemptions that are issued using CAIR-ME. (HTTPS://CAIR.CDPH.CA.GOV/EXEMPTIONS/HOME)
* If a student had Varicella history, he/she needs a medical exemption. Please register on CAIR-ME(HTTPS://CAIR.CDPH.CA.GOV/EXEMPTIONS/HOME) with an email address to request the exemption from your child's doctor.

To protect the health of children, California law requires a health examination on school entry. Please have this report filled out by a health examiner and return it to the school. The school will keep and maintain it as confidential information.

All students entering, advancing or transferring into 7th grade will also need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster immunization (called “Tdap”) BEFORE 1st day of school.
PROOF OF IMMUNIZATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED AND VERIFIED BY THE SCHOOL PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF ATTENDANCE.
